Bobby joined our rescue on December 5, 2017. He comes to us from Ohio and was in need of rescue as his owner had to go into assisted living and could no longer care for him.
Bobby is a mix of a Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese and is somewhere between 5 and 7 years old. He weighs 7 1/2 pounds and is a cuddly dog looking for his forever home :-).
When we took Bobby into our rescue, we had noticed that he was having a difficult time passing urine. It was determined after a few vet visits that he had bladder stones lodged in his urethra. We had to take him to a soft tissue surgeon toward Philadelphia to perform his surgery, which ended up being rather involved. The doctor verified that the stones Bobby had blocking his urethra were metabolic; in other words, he will always most likely end up producing these stones. In order to accomodate the passing of any future stones, the surgeon shortened his urethra and made an opening through his scrotum in which he now urinates through. We have Bobby on a prescription dog food that will hopefully help his body not to produce any future stones, however, there is no guarantee. The surgery was a success and he is feeling much better!! We are working on his house training and he is doing pretty well, considering all that he has been through.
Bobby is a sweet, friendly dog, but does bond to the ones who care for him. He does suffer somewhat from "little dog" syndrome. He can be protective over his "owners" and does not always care to share his toys. For this reason, we will only adopt him to families with teenage children or older. However, he is rather friendly with everyone! He is currently being fostered with 3 older labrador retrievers and has done great!
We do consider Bobby to be special needs. He is going to need a forever family that is willing to keep him on prescription dog food and monitor him for the possibility of passing any future bladder stones. This could potentially involve surgery (hopefully not!), however; surgery would not be as involved as what he has already been through. For anyone considering him, we recommend you discuss with your veterinarian his situation.
Bobby has been through so much and we would love to find a family for him that is willing to continue to work with him on his training and take care of his needs. We have gotten him off to a good start and want to see it continued!
The adoption fee for Bobby is $300. He is neutered, current on vaccinations and on Nexgard and Heartgard. For any questions regarding this adorable boy, please send an email to Christy at cblack@blacklandscape.com. If you are interested in adopting Bobby, please submit an application on our website at www.worthytails.rescuegroups.org.
Thank you for your interest in a rescue dog!
