Nadya is a little love! Her foster family calls her Huggy, because she likes to give hugs. She is a super affecionate girl who loves everyone she meets. She is little for a golden/lab mix at just under 40 pounds, but has all the great characteristics of the breed. She even has that golden "smile". Her coat is longer than a labs but shorter than a golden. She is most likely about 1-2 years old.
She was found as a stray so her history is unknown. If she could tell us, we might find out that her past included some abuse since she shows some fear of sudden movements.
Despite that she is sweet and very people oriented. She shows caution with men when they walk toward her quickly, but loves them once they are seated. She is very gentle in her interactions with people, a bit "needy", and wants very much to be petted and loved. She mostly shows her caution when men walk through a room, and backs away from any fast moving feet.
Nadya would make an excellent therapy dog, because when she wants pets she puts her feet very gentlly up on you, and just loves the attention she gets.
She is sensitive soul who needs a nice routine in her new home.
She sleeps quietly in a crate or out of a crate at night. Currently her foster mom is trying to ease her into using a crate during the day by having her go in for short periods. For longer periods of time, she has been left outside the crate in the house (with the resident dog) and she is usually fine, with the occasional accident or chewed item, showing she is still a young girl who needs supervision.
She is being fostered with cats, older kids, and another dog and is good with all. She is actually fond of the one cat who is more dog friendly and likes to play with him. She will chase the cat that runs from her...of course! She wants to chase the bunnies and squirrels we see on walks.
She walks nicely on a leash other than those attempts to get the rabbits, which are easily controlled. She rides very quietly in the car.
She has learned how to "sit" in her foster home. We'll work on some other commands. She is not bouncy or hyper. She has gotten quite used to having another dog companion in her foster home and it would probably be better if she found a home with another pet to keep her company...either a dog or a cat!
