Violet is a young southern girl with a long story to tell.  She is very social, loving and a smart girl, and learning to become a real dog in her new foster home.  She most likely never owned a toy or a slept in a bed before now, so everything is new to her!

She is still learning when it comes to housetraining, but is doing very well so far.  She is being crate trained. She walks well on a leash, and is most likely the kind of dog that would stay by your side no matter what.

She is a mixed breed, possibly boxer, pitbull, bulldog or any combination of those or other breeds.  We really don't know!  She is most likely full grown, but will fill out a little more.

In her current foster home, she is an only dog, but she was fostered for a brief time with cats and other dogs and did well with everyone.

Her long story began in the middle of May, when she wandered up to a church in Violet, Louisiana.  There a group of 20 volunteers from Lancaster County were drywalling and doing other construction work necessary to rebuild the church which had not been open since Hurricane Katrina flooded it with 10 feet of water 5 years ago.

Church employees had already called a shelter to come and pick up this emaciated, dirty pup.   They knew she was being kept in a shed by an uncaring owner not far from the church, and did not want her to return to that kind of life.  Shelter workers arrived quickly.

Almost immediately after she left mission team members started planning on how to get this dog north where she would have a good chance of finding a forever home.

Shelter workers in St Bernard Parish Animal shelter in Louisiana took good care of her while volunteer transports were arranged to bring her north.  She just arrived, looking so much better than when we first saw her. One of the photos attached to her site shows what she looked like just a month ago.

In order to be considered as Violet's forever family, you will need to fill out an application for her on our website. www.worthytails.rescuegroups.org
A home visit is required as a part of the application.
