Update Aug 29, 2011: Buddy HAS HAIR!! After almost a year in a loving foster home and a litte flea preventative, Buddy has a fuzzy coat coming in. His little legs look normal, his face looks normal, and his body is fuzzy all over. Only his little nub tail has any bare skin but we are confident Buddy will look like a normal healthy dog soon.
Mellow would describe Buddy. This is the dog for anyone who doesn't want to do much with a dog. He is housetrained, although you may have to push him out on a cold morning. Not much seems to faze him. He ignores the cats and pretty much ignores the other dogs. What impresses me is the way he ignores the bad manners of my Chihuahua Taco. Taco get right in Buddy's face and yaps. Buddy is unimpressed. He's not afraid of Taco, nor does he challenge him. He just acts like Taco is not there. He's fine with the other dogs the same way. I have seen no fear out of him or aggression with the other animals. He is just a very well adjusted boy, happy to be in his own skin.
He goes out to potty with my other dogs and if the weather is nice he likes to stay out in the sun. When I am not home, he has the laundry room to himself. I just say "Come on" and he goes into the room on his own. He'll make a couple of good-bye barks, then just goes to sleep. There have been a few accidents there when I have been away a long time. He does try marking in my kitchen, but a quick "no!" will bring him right to the door. Recent neutering will help as well.
He curls up with Shannon (11) on the couch and often finds himself a spot with me in my chair. Very much a people dog, but is content to be a couch potato. He doesn't romp, but loves attention, he is happy just to be with you. He did chase my pool repair guys around when they came into "his" yard, but settled quickly when I picked him up. He wasn't real intimidating. Grandsons are well liked by him, but it took a bit for him to get used to my husband. I think his size rathered scared him. He fed him cheese and that was all it took. They are buddies now. He adapts well to new surroundings.
His coat is sparse but I don't think he is itchy although he likes to roll around on his back. I don't see him scratching. He rolls mostly after I change his clothes. There is little hair on his torso and nothing really seems to be coming in. He has no scabs and actually looks pretty good if you are not real close and then you notice the lack of hair. I keep a sweater or shirt on him all the time because the weather is not so nice to a hairless dog. Maybe the hair would be more likely to return if he had no sweater. I don't know.
Adopted March 30, 2012 by Judy and Jim Deem, foster parents. Yeah, Buddy!!!
