As a rescuer we so often find stories of abuse, neglect, and greed. Sometimes the stories just make you want to take a pitiful dog just so he/she feels love for the first time in their lives. So goes the story of Harley. Harley was used as a breeder dog and when no longer needed/wanted he was taken to a shelter in Ky. Harley and a female breeder dog were in horrific shape. Their poor little eyes were crusted shut, all but bald from lack of nutrition, entropion in his eyes, bleeding gums, and in very poor shape. Thank God that another shelter with a little more means seen the poor babies and decided to get them out of there. Harley and his mate were updated on immunizations, spayed/neutered, and Harley had entropion surgery for inverted eyelids. Harley's mate was blessed and although looked terrible she got adopted. Then there was Harley...He looked beyond hideous but we knew he needed a chance and we rescued him. Harley was scared, shy, and pathetic when he arrived. He was not housetrained, as he lived in his own urine and feces which is believed aided in his hair loss. He was nervous with us and didn't know how to socialize with other dogs. It was a matter of days till Harley figured out what being a pet was all about. He learned that he loved to snuggle, loved playing with toys, and loved romping and playing with his foster brothers and sisters. He ate like there was no tomorrow and caught on to potty training within days. His hair began to grow back in a beautiful chocolate color. We took him to the Doggie Barber to have the remains of his past cleaned and clipped off. The Barber said he was nothing but a gentleman during his grooming and fell easily in love with him as well. When he came home he finally looked like someones pet. We sent pics to the shelter that saved him and they said they could never believe that was the same dog. Harley is a WONDERFUL well behaved love bug that is now ready to have a family of his very own who will forever treat him like the little prince he is.
