"I don't want a lot for Christmas.... just a home." If you are looking for someone who enjoys a nice walk, not too brisk, not too slow, but just right.... Patches is your dog. In fact, Patches is "just right" in so many ways. Consider being Santa Claus, and make her holiday wish come true!
Patches is not looking for a lot in life after a background of hardship... just a loving home, a warm, soft spot to sleep, someone to give her a walk or two a day, give her treats, appreciate her tremendous love of people, and someone who will continue to treat her with loving kindness and patience. Patches LOVES people-- she wags her little stump of a tail (or tries to!) She seeks out our pets and hugs and love, and gives kisses. Remarkable for a dog that has been ill-treated. In the time that we have had her, she has turned into a completely wonderful dog, from the traumatized soul that she was. She is a true joy, and one can only smile when she wags that stump of a tail.
Patches is spayed, walks well on leash, is house trained, and is being fostered with two children and three dogs, and does exceptionally well with all. She is moderately active, not high energy, but she really does LOVE to walk at a reasonable speed. She is very responsive to people and with only gentle methods, easily trained. And she has a passion for hunting acorns on walks :-) Overall, she is just wonderful!
Patches a very special dog, and is the reason we do rescue. She is lucky to be alive. She has had a hard life... And never again will she be abused or treated unkindly. Patches was found tied to the porch of an animal shelter volunteer in WV in February 2012. The shelter staff believed she should live because she was so sweet, so loving, so she remained alive. Eventually, she made it into our rescue, safe. She has been abused, but is the kindest, gentlest soul, with not an ounce of ill will towards anything or anybody. I believe that tying her to the shelter volunteer's porch was an act of rescue, and I vowed to continue that rescue, and brought her into my home, as my foster. I have promised her that never again will she be unloved. She has indeed been looking for her forever home for some time now, but that is NOT her fault. Rather, I believe her doggy soul is waiting for that person or family who will be just right for her.
Her breed mix is a guess from her appearance and size. She seems to be definitely Pointer, and probably hound. She has a Pointer personality in terms of wanting to be with people and bonding to the adults in the family, and she has bursts of Pointer energy that tell us that she would love the chance to run, before she settles in for a nice nap. This Fall, her latest passion is hunting for acorns on the street :-). She also mastered sit, and is working on "here", down, leave it, and heel. She was once trained, it is clear, but that training was also not nice, so she has come a very very long way. We estimate her age at around 5-7 years old-- PERFECT! Please do not overlook her!
If you have questions, contact her foster at kmcadams7@gmail.com. Only completely approved applicants willing to provide a gentle home may meet Patches. Fenced yard required, no invisible fence given past abuse.
