Its hard to tell in her picture but Sky's eyes are "sky blue". Beautiful.
Last Monday, a homeless friend of ours brought her over. He had gotten her from a woman at a yard sale, who said, "I'm moving and I can't take her with me and I won't take her to the humane society 'cause they'll put her down." He had a soft heart and took her, but then thought, "how am I going to care for her?" followed closely by "Rick and Kim!"
"Sky" was inconsolable the first night, so I slept on the enclosed front porch with her. Kept her on a short leash, literally; it was wrapped around my wrist. She never woke me up, so she must not have moved from my side.
The next day we let her hang out with our two dogs and she did fine. We took her to the vet. Sky is 2 to 3 years old, 46 skinny pounds, had fleas, worms and no spay scar (of course). She does have one now because we had her spayed. She's been de-fleaed and de-wormed, is up to date on all shots, and of course has her rabies tag.
She's not had one accident in the house, and on the one other night I slept out front with her, she woke me up at 3:30 so I could take her outside.
She's fine with the other dogs. In fact, our neighbor leaves her two dogs here during the day sometimes, and all five get along great together. I've even seen her and our dog, Willy, playing !
She loves, loves, loves people, and being close to them. She cuddles with you on the floor or the couch, snuggles into your arms if you squat down to love on her, and is a total wiggle butt. She likes me well enough, but I think she prefers women.
Sky likes car rides, and walks pretty well on a leash, too.
She's had a skin condition on her back half, from the fleas, and a nasty sore on the bottom of her tail. We're medicated her for that.
We're also feeding her all she wants. She lost her appetite for a few days around her surgery, but gulped down almost four cups of kibble at dinner tonight. I hope we won't see her ribs for much longer.
(See attached video of Sky and cat.) Our cat, Avery, sniffed her nose tonight while she lolled on the couch and it didn't faze her at all, so I think she'll be fine with them. See video below of Sky and Avery getting acquainted.
Sky's adoption fee of $200 covers the cost of her vetting and any transportation costs involved in meeting her new FOREVER family. You can access an adoption application at: www.worthytails.rescuegroups.org
