The Shih Tzu is an alert, lively, little dog. It is happy and hardy, and packed with character. The gentle, loyal Shih Tzu makes friends easily and responds well to consistent, patient training. It makes a very alert watchdog. It is courageous and clever. Playful and spunky, this affectionate little dog likes to be with people and is generally good with other pets.

When Dixie was found and taken to a shelter, they cut over a pound of matted, mucky, hair from her.  They found a beautiful little dog under there just waiting to be cherished by a human.  Our vet says she is around 8 years old;  keep in mind that this breed's life expectancy is 15 years or more so she is in her prime.

During her stay in foster care she has learned to enjoy petting and she really LOVES her belly rubs.  She seems amazed that being picked up doesn't hurt.  She is paper trained and working on going outside to potty.  A darling little lap dog.

She gets along with dogs and cats but she would be happy as an only dog too.  She prefers women and but is coming along nicely with the foster daddy.

You can find an adoption application at:   www.worthytails.rescuegroups.org   Her adoption fee of $275 covers the cost of her spay, shots, heartworm/lyme test, wormer, flea/tick preventative and transportation.  No small children please.  This breed is high maintenance, needing regular grooming, annual dental care.  Small dog experienced will be given preference.
